Electric chain hoists often operate in 3 phases. Due to the lack of access to three-phase industrial electricity in general applications, some brands of overhead cranes produce single-phase electric chain hoists. In most cases, the maximum lifting capacity of single-phase cranes is lower than 3-phase cranes and they are produced up to 5 tons. Single phase electric crane works with city electricity and even electricity generated by diesel generator.
